VELVI ART FOR AUTISM FESTIVAL
31 December2009, 1 & 2 January 2010

Velvi a registered trust for promoting Indian Culture and Arts and an advocate for Art for Autism is organizing the second festival at Madurai on 31 December 2009 and 1 and 2 January 2010. The festival is open to young people in Autism Spectrum Disorder, parents caregivers, special educators, psychiatric social workers and theatre artists.

Prof. ( Dr) Parasuram Ramamoorthi and exponent of Drama for Autism and known for his path breaking work mask for autism will be the coordinator of the festival.

Mr.Andrew Nelson of Autism Research Centre ,Marshall University, West Virginia, USA , author of Social skills for Aspergers and co-founder of Artran will run workshops on focal points, social skills and role-play.

Ms. Nikki Bettcher Autism Coordinator Wilmar, Minnesota USA will run workshops on Music and Movement, Comedy, Improvisation techniques.

( Parasuram Ramamoorthi, Andrew Nelson and Nikki Bettcher team ran a similar workshop at the 40th annual conference of Autism Society of America at Chicago in July 2009)

Ms. Shaheen Swarna, Principal of ASHA integrated school Bangalore will conduct painting/collage/sketching workshops

Mr. Rajasekar Jesudasan of Madurai will run Music workshop with children and adults on the spectrum.

The three day workshop would end with a performance/presentation by people in the spectrum.

This is a residential workshop where every participant will be provided with accommodation food and learning materials. Each person in the spectrum would be accompanied by a parent or care giver. Only thirty persons in the spectrum would be admitted to the workshop on a first cum first basis.

Fees : Rs 3000 only for one participant with one parent or caregiver ( fee covers food and accommodation and learning materials)
Rs. 4500 for both the parents and one participant


Last date for registration : 31 October.
( please note that participation is limited to only thirty persons in the spectrum and twenty professionals. Early registration is advised)

Arrival Date : Morning of 31 December 2009

Departure Date : 2 Januray 2010 evening by 7 pm
