Identity Structure Analysis
I work for the company Sycadex Ltd, which develops innovative psychological assessments. We create assessments for the workplace (recruitment, employee development etc) and for the community/social sector (social cohesion, race relations etc).
The approach we use is called Identity Structure Analysis (ISA). ISA is primarily a social measurement technique. It is a powerful and flexible approach that looks in detail at an individual/group's identity and how it impacts on culture and society.
Through out unique assessments we identify a person's values and beliefs, characteristics and aspirations over time (providing a developmental history) and in the context of other people, places and things (providing an overview of relationships). It is a fantastic exploratory tool, allowing you to ascertain such things as the underlying beliefs and perspectives of the different ethnic and social groupings within the local community.
Coming up in April 2009 Sycadex will be holding a two-day workshop on ISA at the University of Chester. This workshop is directed towards practitioners, researchers and academics from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds for which issues of identity development and change are salient. Those who have attended in the past have included EAESP members, social psychologists, counselors and PhD students.
